Lucy Boston - Patchwork of Crosses

Patchwork of Crosses

Patchwork of Crosses by Lucy Boston. Unknown date, but probably late 1950's.

88 x 99", one inch long hexagons and one inch squares.

Fifty six blocks, each with twenty six "church windows"  worked into various patterns. Border, a marbled brown  print with a red stripe, folded back and carefully mitred.

Lining - a floral lawn.

With the renewed popularity of English Paper Piecing, this quilt has had much recent publicity, with many new Patchwork of Crosses quilts being made. Preprinted paper shapes now makes the work of making templates much easier.
